Saving Mr. Olympia
In the above video, successful businessman / content creator / lifelong bodybuilding enthusiast Patrick Bet-David from the mega popular business YouTube channel Valuetainment (5.85 million subscribers) talk about what could be done to resurrect International Federation of BodyBuilding (IFBB) Mr. Olympia brand.
First, PBD starts with the biggest bodybuilding icon ever Arnold Schwarzenegger and how to duplicate his road to success today.
- Come to U.S.
- Win Mr. Olympia
- Become the face of Bodybuilding
- Win over Joe Weider
- Enter his contacts
- Work your ass off
- Be a good Mr. Olympia citizen
- Do movies
- Mary a Kennedy
- Build businesses
- Go into politics
- Leave a massive legacy
What would be today’s Arnold formula “equivalent”
- Build your social media brand
- Win Mr. Olympia
- Win 3 more
- Win 4 more (8-time Mr. Olympia like Ronnie Coleman)
- Marry a Jones $$$
- Contact??? No Weider
- Start a supplement company
- Do a ton of surgeries (knees, back, stomach, etc)
- Only leave a legacy in bodybuilding
- Become an expensive trainer & start a podcast
Now the good stuff!
What if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia (The Rock’s ex-wife and current business partner, a former pro bodybuilder) run Mr. Olympia
- Build your social media brand
- Win Mr. Olympia
- Win over The Rock & Dany
- Enter their contacts
- Marry whoever you want, if you want to
- Movies: U.S. market + Worldwide & China
- Not just a supplement company but Under Armor
- Make Billions
- Access the best doctors
- Politics, if you want to
- Massive legacy worldwide
The biggest challenges the Mr. Olympia brand is facing before going mainstream:
- Being transparent about the fact that they all have to use PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs/ steroids) and that an individual should do whatever he wants. Just like CBD (cannabis) finally got accepted by society at large.
- You need another Joe Weider. The Rock?
With these 2 problems out of the way. Maybe we would be able to see Mr. Olympia on Netflix. Then bodybuilders would be able to do $1 Million, $2 Million, $5 Million, $10 Million per year. IFBB could explose just like the UFC did thanks to Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor.
Well, it looks perfect on paper. But I don’t see The Rock or another Joe Weider type taking over bodybuilding that has been irrelevant for decades. Despite his love for the bodybuilding lifestyle, I don’t see The Rock buying IFBB Mr. Olympia brand anytime soon. He already burned his wings with the XFL (Xtreme Football League).
If we believe the above video, The Rock was supposed to buy the Mr Olympia show or create his own.
And yes, there have been discussions and reports about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s involvement with the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition.
- Acquisition of Mr. Olympia: It was reported that Dwayne Johnson was interested in acquiring the Mr. Olympia competition. However, in February 2020, it was announced that Jake Wood, not Johnson, purchased the Mr. Olympia franchise. Many fitness enthusiasts speculated that Johnson’s interest in acquiring the competition might have been a significant move, but it ultimately did not materialize .
- Creation of a New Event: While there were rumors about Johnson potentially creating his own bodybuilding event or taking over Mr. Olympia, these plans did not come to fruition. Johnson’s involvement in bodybuilding remains significant through his fitness-related ventures and partnerships, but he did not establish a competing event .
- Partnerships and Influence: Johnson has been active in the bodybuilding community through his company, Seven Bucks Productions, and has partnered with various bodybuilding events and athletes .
In summary, while there were serious discussions about The Rock’s involvement with Mr. Olympia, he did not end up buying the show or creating a competing event.
So Mr. Olympia won’t get bigger, no one million dollars prize for the winner, no mainstream appeal, no high production attached to it… Sadly.
